Aljezur

Aljezur is a municipality found in the Algarve region of Portugal with a total area of 323.5 km² and a total population of 5,322 inhabitants. The word is derived from the Arabic word "Aljuzur", the plural of island. The municipality is composed of 4 parishes: Aljezur, Bordeira, Odeciexe and Rogil. Aljezur is located in the Faro District. The present Mayor is Manuel José Marreiros, elected by the Socialist Party. The Aljezur municipal holiday is August 29.

 

Located on the west coast of the Algarve, Aljezur is well known for its breathtaking coastal views and iconic unspoilt beaches. Aljezur Castle, now a popular tourist destination, dominates the village of Aljezur and its river.
